Lately, I've been really good at finding things to do at night besides sleeping. Tonight I was going to do pilates and was changing the channel on my TV to video mode, when I happened to stop on PBS. Nova was doing a show with 12 average people who they were training to run the Boston Marathon. I got sucked in and couldn't stop watching, which meant I couldn't do pilates. Oh well. Then the show started talking about health issues and claimed that even if you look like you're a healthy weight, you still could very well be overfat. Overfat?? What an absolutely horrible, disgusting word. All of the women on the Nova team are overfat. Eeek. And one of the ways you get overfat is by not using your muscles enough. So, I started to get all panicky and decided I'd do some pilates on my own while continuing to watch Nova. Then I discovered that I have actually memorized two routines from my favorite pilates DVD. Thank you every much, Denise Austin.Sometimes I think it would be cool to run a marathon and other time I think it's absolutely ridiculous and horrible for your body. But then I realize I probably think this because I know I'm a horrible distance runner and am making excuses for why this isn't a big deal. Whatever. I'm actually a pretty amazing sprinter, which I think is a much more useful skill to have. When am I ever going to have to run a long distance? But there's no telling when I might need to sprint away from (or to) something. I just realized that the dad of a girl I know is on Team Nova. Pretty impressive that a 6'3", 290 lb former NFLer can run the 26.2 mile Boston Marathon. And I cannot. I think I'll go to bed now and have nightmares about being overfat.Oooh, on second thought, Frontline is doing a special on undertakers next. That should provide some fabulous nightmare material.
