and we didn't even have to wait another 86 years.

World Series champions!!!!!! Honestly, that series was amazing and I'm still in shock that we swept. I almost started crying when I saw how happy the boys were. And I think it's soo cool how many rookies made such a huge difference in our season. It was a total and complete team effort. I've been hearing a lot of people say things like "It would have been so much better if the Rockies won; the Red Sox always win!" Umm hello? We didn't win a thing for 86 years. And we even waited a few years after winning in 2004. So, I think we've been playing pretty nicely. Then they say things like "New England wins at everything! It's no fair!" I think it's fair. It's called we're better than you. The best team wins and our teams are pretty damn awesome right now (I may have to exclude the Bruins from this statement, though I will try to keep some faith in them).

I watched the game at Chelsee and Katie's apartment because a) we didn't get an early enough start to be able to fit in any bar in Boston and surrounding cities, b) thinking about even being near alcohol was making me sick, and c) my mom told me I would probably get hurt if I went out. So we sat in front of the TV in our Sox t-shirts and enjoyed the game in a peaceful and safe environment.

Then Chelsee offered to drive me and Nina home and we had the fabulous idea of checking out the action more into the city. Kenmore was entirely blocked off so we just had to imagine the craziness that was there. I'd probably rather not though considering when we entered the Mass Ave. area, people (also known as college students) came from everywhere, surrounding Chelsee's vehicle from all sides (also known as jumping on it). They started banging on her windows, climbing on her car, jumping on the roof, screaming, basically being complete morons and preventing us from driving anywhere. I honestly felt like we were going to die, the windows were going to smash, someone was going to tip the car over with us in it, etc. Nina said she felt like she was at a car wash (from hell) and there is honestly no better way to describe how it felt. This human car wash resulted in a huge dent in Chelsee's brand-new, just paid $2,000 for hood. And us kicking ourselves because we should have known something like that was going to happen.

Moral of the story: Always listen to your mom. And while I love Boston and the Red Sox to death, there are a few citizens I could do without.

have some time on your hands?

Today:

-I was informed that our water would be shut off for a majority of the day. No biggie, I was planning on being out of my apartment for the entire day anyway. So I made sure to get in the shower 1/2 an hour before the water was going to be shut off. I was "planning accordingly" like the flyer stuck on our door told us to do. The water was shut off less than 5 minutes after I got into the shower. 25 minutes ahead of time. With my hair fully lathered with shampoo. Oh yes, that was a fun way to start the day.

-I saw two adults on the T reading The Giver. At the same time, sitting across from each other. But they weren't together and got on the T at different stops. Did I miss something about The Giver becoming the book to read? I read the book in 7th grade and remember it being quite good, but thought it was strange to see two adults reading it at the same time across from each other on the T.

-Class was cut short when we convinced my teacher to let us continue our discussions at the bar while watching the Sox game. It worked out well. Except I destroyed my "I've been at Emerson for 2.5 years and haven't once been to the Tam" thing I had going. Umm can't say I feel I've been missing out on much by avoiding the Tam. I'd even go so far as to say the Beacon Hill Pub is about 5 steps above it. That's bad, my friends. I especially didn't like that you have to ask the bartender to let you into the bathroom. I washed my hands several times when I got home (yay, water being turned back on!). By the way, if tonight is any indication of how the World Series is going to be, then helll yeah, bring it on. The Sox rocked it.

-A classmate told me about these 2 websites that are probably going to destroy my life. So now I'm telling you about them in hopes that you will join me in some self-destruction. These sites are seriously amazing, ane will most likely prove to eat up a lot of my time. The first is called We Feel Fine and it's basically a system that searches blogs looking for the phrase "I feel" or "I am feeling." It records the whole sentence and stores it in a database. You can go on the site and spend pretty much all day looking at what people are feeling (sad, happy, excited, etc.). It organizes them in lots of cool ways, like by age, city, etc. So, you can see what people are feeling in Boston today. Or Baghdad. It also tells you the happiest cities, saddest cities, and so on. It's hard to explain but go check it out. If you can stand to lose a few days of your life. And who can't really.

A few of my fave feelings today:

I feel loved and wanted, maybe I will stay around.

I just feel so extremely grateful to be living in this world.

I do like Kevin Millar a ton no matter how I feel about his weird wannabe act he's got going on right now.

The other site, called Lovelines is equally as cool and basically goes through people's blogs looking for sentences that start with "I love," "I hate," and anything in between ( I like, I want, I don't like). It's a simple as that but it's sooo addicting. Kind of like Postsecret, but better because it's taking these sentences totally away from their context. You can also click on the sentences and go to the person's blog, which is also bad for me because I have enough blogs to read as it is. It's fun to read one, think it means something, and then read the person's blog to realize they were talking about something totally different. The only thing I don't like is that Lovelines takes out the punctuation.

Some of my faves from Lovelines:

I love these people, and I love how we're all in the same boat-- in or just out of college or university, completely floundering at life at the moment, and just keen on getting to payday, any payday, just as long as there is a payday. - from Toronto, Canada

I love pretty shoes, but don't get a chance to wear them as often as I'd like.

i love this feeling, where your heart feels so full and all you want to do is sing and dance - 20 year old girl in Bogota Colombia

I love, to get intimate with peoples minds, learn their true self, their hopes and fears. - 19 year old girl in Gainsville FL

I love the man, but seriously, wtf?

I hate that he won't say anything when I'm standing there crying my heart out. - 24 year old in MA

I hate this, I don't want to have a baby at 18 - 18 year old female

I hate my face - from a man

Both of these sites were created by Jonathan Harria and Sep Kamvar, so you can thank them for making you wonder where your entire day went. Not me. I will not be held responsible.

world series '07, whatttt.

I just wanted to take the time to say YAYYYY RED SOX!!!!!!

Soo crazy that we are going back to the World Series and didn't even have to wait 86 years. The Sox's comeback was amazing (as usual) and there's seriously nothing better than seeing them so completely ecstatic after the game. Unless it's seeing Papelbon's little Irish jig. Because I could never get tired of seeing that.

I've got a busy week this week. But it's such a good feeling knowing that tomorrow's going to be a beautiful day and all of Boston is going to be in a great mood. Wish I didn't have class on Wednesday night, but I'm looking forward to another exciting and action-filled series. Sox are gonna beat the Rox!

getting jazzy.

In an effort to begin our "try something new every week," we went to Ryles Jazz Club in Cambridge last night. I've never been to a jazz club before and I have to say, while it wasn't quite my crowd of people, it was a lot of fun. I'm not crazy into jazz so I was pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed the music. Legit could not sit still in my seat. There wasn't a dance floor but some people got up and danced anyway. I wanted to, but didn't due to the fact that the people dancing were a bit odd, or were pro dancers and would have made me look like a fool.

Anyway, my roommate's sister is looking to have her wedding reception at Ryles so we went with her to check it out and enjoy a low-key Friday night. I think this place would be a lot of fun if we got a big group of friends to go to. Or it would be a super cute place to have a date. Maybe not a first date though as it can get pretty loud. But it seriously made me want to listen to more jazz. I think a lot of people have the misconception that jazz is slow, boring, Sunday morning type music. I figured out this wasn't true after seeing Dave Brubeck in Chautauqua a while back, who was amazing. But I still never really think about listening to it often. I love that everyone in the band seemed to be having so much fun. The saxophone player was amazing. And every song with lyrics was about drinking/getting drunk. Gotta love it.

Game six tonight...let's hope Schilling can pull it off! I have a lot of homework this weekend; tons of writing and editing, but luckily it's all stuff I enjoy and am obsessed with doing. And I'm obviously squeezing in some quality Sox time. I'm in the middle of reading a million books right now but I just got Eat, Pray, Love and I can't wait to start it.

good day.

You know you're having a good day when the cash register woman printing out your receipt at CVS says, "wowww" as 12 feet of receipt print.

And you enjoy ridiculous amounts of food and beer at Sunset Grill with your favorite people in the world.

And the Red Sox win game #5 in Cleveland.

And tomorrow is Friday.

Going to bed happy.

weekend of sox.

I loved that Stephen King was shown "watching" game #1. He was actually sitting there at Fenway Park reading a book and didn't even notice that the camera was on him. HA. Though I kind of understand. The Sox were winning so ridiculously much that it was slightly boring. But still, he should know it's the Red Sox, anything can happen. Hope he wasn't reading a book during game 2. That game was a horror story in itself.

The Greatest Bar serves Van Gogh Vodka, which comes in amazing flavors like double espresso, coconut, and black cherry. Who knew.

It was the cutest thing ever that James Taylor announced the starting lineup for game 2. He's adorable and though he was slightly awkward (or kind of really awkward), he seemed to be happy about it. Is there anyone who doesn't love James Taylor? Or JT as Joe Buck was calling him...weird. I'm not sure there's room for more than one JT in the music industry.

My mom called me at 8 and asked what I was doing. I said I just turned the game on. "Who's winning?" she asked. I told her it hadn't even started yet. "Yes it did; it started at 5:00!" she told me. She said she had watched part of it and when she stopped watching in the fifth inning, the score was 5-5. For a second I thought I missed the whole game, but then I realized she was legit crazy (watching ESPN Classic?? Seriously, who knows). Anyway, it kind of freaked me out that come the fifth inning, we were tied 5-5, even if it was just for a minute. WTF channel was she watching? The psychic network??

So, see where all of my supporting of Trot got us?? Oops. I didn't even think he was going to play; not to mention, make the play that pretty much ended the game for us. Not cool! But I still say, if it had to happen, I'm glad it was Trot who hit it and not anyone else. I think most people would agree with me on that. Maybe I need to really retire my shirt now...Boo.

I will be missing game #3 since I'll be at the Maroon 5 concert. Kind of sad since it will be a big game; but I'm super psyched to see Maroon 5. When we bought the tickets over the summer October seemed soo far away. I cannot believe how fast time flies. I am constantly amused and frightened by this.

Off to bed where I can sleep a full night without dogs all over me and without having to get up every 2 hours to take a puppy out. Life is fabulous.

playoff game #1 and some dogs.

Trying to determine how crazy tonight is going to be. We're trying to get to the bar early to ensure we get a table, but who knows. I have a feeling it is going to be absolutely ridiculous. But it should be more than exciting!

I'm going a bit against the grain and wearing my Trot Nixon Red Sox shirt. Hope I don't "upset" any fellow Boston fans. Obviously I am cheering the Sox on 100%, but I also still support and love Trot 100%. So, I want Trot to play like an all-star but for the rest of the Indians to suck. OK? Actually, I'm fairly certain Trot's not even in the line-up tonight, but whatever. I still support.

The rest of my weekend will be occupied with dog sitting, my little Cissy and the puppy. I'm scared. The puppy is a huge mess and will probably drive me crazy. It's only for 2 nights and I'm sure I will be fairly compensated, but we'll see how I deal.

My aunt also confirmed some other dates and then threw in "oh, by the way, Thanksgiving falls in the middle of that; we're you planning on going home?" No, actually I was planning on hanging out in the city by myself on Thanksgiving Day, you know, like I usually do. Umm yeah. I told her I was planning on going home and staying over for a couple nights since my sister will be home. "OK, well the pen fits easily in the car," she said of the puppy's pen. Umm OK. Will definitely have to check with the parents on how they feel about having an untrained puppy stay in their house for the holidays. My "aunt" is my mom's best friend so they can figure it out among themselves. Or I can spend Thanksgiving alone with 2 dogs in a house with lots of expired food (My aunt and uncle are so busy and so rich that they don't seem to even look in their cupboards or fridge. It's a game I like to play when I go over...how much of the same food is still there from last time I visited. Bread sticks that expired in 2003 are still front and center, going on 3+ years. Interesting...I hope when I am rich and famous, I still eat food and clean out my cupboards). Wish me luck.

And GO SOX!!!!!!

here we go again.

They're baaaack. As Sas and I sat dining on Newbury Street, we realized it was finally that time of year again. The official end of summer and the official return of the college students. On the one hand, it was refreshing to see actual people everywhere; I felt like I lived in a city again. On the other, I'm not so excited to see hordes of college kids everywhere. I feel like such an old woman; I'm only 24 (exactly 1 month, 1 day till 25!), but I just feel like I've been over the whole college thing for sooo long. And I get so easily annoyed by college students. Granted I try not to complain too much because I know the colleges and universities are what make Boston and I really do appreciate that.

Just not looking forward to a more crowded T and ridiculous lines for bars. My friends and I decided we need to start hanging out in places where college students don't go. Any ideas for hot weekend spots with a mid-twenties and older crowd?

The people on Newbury St. were just plain weird tonight and I almost got in a straight up fight with some chick trying to sell some sort of magazine. Sas and I were sitting on the steps of a building enjoying our JP Licks when she approached. We said no thanks and she said, "God, people in Boston are so rude! And nobody cares about the arts!" I said (seriously trying to be helpful), "Maybe if you took off your giant Yankees necklace, people would be more receptive to you" and she started talking about how people in NY appreciate the arts soo much more and then went on and on about how many pennants the Yankees have won compared to the Sox. I just repeated over and over "The Red Sox are 8 games ahead of the Yankees. 8 games. 8 games" (Of course, this was before I knew we were currently losing a game to the Yankees, pshh whatever). It got a little heated but she finally walked away still yelling about pennants. I hate people sometimes.

as if.

Pshhh as if we need Roger Clemens on the Red Sox. I'm sorry, but as far as I'm concerned, the Yankees can have him; they need plenty more help than we do right now. And I think they need a lot more help than Clemens can offer them. If we wanted him at all, I'm sure it was purely for historical reasons only.

Clemens gave up the chance to play on the Red Sox once again, and that is clearly his major loss.

tom brady turning evil?

Why why why would Tom Brady choose to go out in public wearing a New York Yankees hat?? I am extremely baffled by this. I saw the pictures on TV and almost threw up. I mean, come on dude, I realize you're now living in New York in your multi-million dollar home with your supermodel girlfriend, but that doesn't mean you have to become one of THEM. You'd think as a member of a Boston team, he'd be supporting other Boston teams. And if not, at least don't be supporting Boston ENEMIES.

Yes Tom, you are an extremely attractive man. But NO man is attractive with a Yankees hat on his head.

I love that the Boston Herald "interviewed" team spokesguy Dr. Charles Steinberg and he said, “we know that Tom has an array of Red Sox caps from which to choose...But we fully respect that he needed to wear a suitable disguise for his own health and protection. We don’t doubt that he’s a card-carrying member of Red Sox Nation.” Ummm right. If you're looking for a disguise, Tom, next time at least try a Mets hat.

red sox kick butt.

And we sweeeept the Yankees!! Yes! And set new records in the process...how amazing were the four home runs in a row?? Anyway, I'm super excited and some of my bitterness is starting to melt away. Yes, I was/am extremely bitter that Trot Nixon is no longer a part of the Red Sox. Honestly, Trot WAS Boston to me and I never thought he would be gone, and I don't think I'll ever like a player as much as I like and respect him. I even secretly hoped for J.D. Drew to suck hardcore (but still have the Sox do well despite him, of course). I wanted Boston to regret their horrible decision to let Trot go. But Drew is not sucking, and was part of the home run quartet tonight, so I can't be too mad. If he hadn't taken Trot's position, I might even say I like him a little bit. I still stand firm that he shouldn't have taken #7, however.

Hopefully the Sox will continue this domination. At least for now they have overcome that horrible fall they had to the Yankees last year. But I do still miss Trot. He should be here. GO SOX!

red sox season has begun!

SO psyched that Red Sox season has now begun. Too bad it got off to a disappointing loss. But I suppose, as fans, we are used to this and should look forward to a roller-coaster ride of a season, as usual.

SO not looking forward to T rides on game days at Fenway. I hear that the D line will be shut down for much of the summer as they will be updating the tracks for the "new" trains. That will make the C line oh so much more fun!

Oh well, GO SOX!
