success.
I chose not to post the first day in December because it is no longer Nablopomo and I didn’t have to. Maybe I was trying to make a statement. Also, I didn’t have a single second, because I spent all of yesterday standing over a hot stove (hehe). My body seriously hurt by the end of the day and by the time I got to the party, I wanted to pass out in bed. I did, however, manage to stay awake for the evening and have lots of fun.
The party was a success (I think anyway!) We had WAY too much food as me, Chels, and Katie got a little overzealous with the whole cooking thing, but I think it was a really good presentation and people gave us lots of compliments on the food. I sadly failed to take any pictures of the food I made (I know, I suck), but I’m pretty happy with how all of it came out. I got the fritatta recipe from Martha Stewart’s blog and I highly recommend it. It wasn’t too hard, could be cut into lots of pieces (I made 2 fritattas), and can be served at room temperature. I also made Martha’s turkey, brie, and cranberry chutney quesadillas. I am a huge Martha Stewart sucker (in case you didn’t notice from my previous posts…yes, she wrote on my Facebook wall!). And thanks to, One Girl, I am also now a fan of Martha’s Blueprint blog! OK, you probably just had your fill of Martha Stewart links for a while (Chelsee and I are still working on launching our blog, We Are Not Martha).
Oh, and don’t worry, just because there were no drinking games at the party, there was still plenty of alcohol- just of a classier variety. There were massive amounts of wine and Sam Adams beer, and Katie made a delicious hard apple cider (hard cider WITH alcohol in it as Chelsee would say). And trust me, I needed a few (or more) drinks after cooking all day. And the cider was GOOD.
Hosting house parties with people you don’t know is always a bit difficult, especially when a lot of my friends I don’t get to see often were there. And many of the couple’s friends from college and beyond, whom I didn’t know prior, all seem to be engaged and at sort of different points in their lives than my friends and I are. But once the parents left, we all sat around and listened to 90s music, talked, and drank champagne. It was low-key, but fun. Which is kind of fitting, beause I would also describe the couple getting married as low-key, but fun.
Then more people left and just 6 of us remained, including our high school friend Steve, who we only seem to see about once a year and who always manages to turn everything into a friendly competition. We hung out helping to clean, drinking cider, and laughing until about 3 a.m. when I finally decided if I didn’t take my heels off and fall into bed, it wasn’t going to be pretty. So Nins and I hopped into a cab, I spent a bit of time cleaning our kichen, and then I had the best night of sleep ever.
So our first ever adult-ish party was fab and fun. I can’t say I didn’t miss playing beirut a little bit; but I’m sure there will be more non-adult parties to come. And I can’t wait for the bachelorette party! And wedding on the Cape.
A couple of cute pics were taken and I will be sure to post them when Chels gets them up. I need to start taking my own pics, but I tend to lose focus when I’m in social situations and forget to do things like take pictures. And then later I regret it.
Whoohoo, it’s snowing here in Boston. Nice, because I currently am not in a holiday spirit at all and hope this will help!
I love that we’re all in black and grey and the bride-to-be is in pink!

Glad the party was a success.
I’m a little jealous that you have a celeb Facebook friend.
Although I DO have the goalie from the 1970s Montreal Canadiens.

Way to go on the fabulous hostessing skills! And I gotta say, I’m coming for you on the “besties with Martha front.” On Friday I wrote my friend’s (Ad Sales Rep for Martha Stewart Omni) condolences note (on account of MS’s mother) for her. Then was out with the rest of the MS Chicago team on Friday. One of whom had dinner with Martha and manfriend on Tuesday.
Was it even possible to follow that? Ok- you still win. And I’m about to break into the turkey, brie and cranberry chutney ‘dillas.
