Research actually supports that women tend to pick songs/movies that reinforce their current feeling (depressed....so you watch a depressing song), while men choose something the opposite, in an effort to change their mood. (depressed....watch a comedy, action film, etc).

Go figure!

"Leave" is a GREAT pick.

May I add another song?

I'm risking all of my manhood by admitting it, but...

Tracy Chapman's "The Promise" made my throat all lumpy and I had to really fight back tears.

Mm... I should blog about that

Susie- you’ve done it again. I totally want to copycat but will wait a week so that the sting of being completely unoriginal will pass a bit. I agree entirely on the “creatives need to be sad sometimes” point. I don’t necessarily long to be sad but I want to feel deeply, I want to care that much. Great list too. “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead” is a tie for first on my list with “Parting Gift” or “Oh Well” by Fiona Apple- Extraordinary Machine was most definitely my break-up album. More to come- this looks like it took awhile so I should get started.

SeeLeigh-John Mayer does have a few! Comfortable gets me too.

TBFLove & Susie- I second "Both Sides Now"

D$- Are you he one that sent me Set Fire to the Third Bar?

Speaking of Snow Patrol, I woke up this morning with "Set Fire to the Third Bar" in my head which is a phenominal song and even more phenominal live. Not quite sure who it was originally recorded with but when performed live they pick someone out of the audience. In other news, I'm not a big fan of sad songs, but this post makes me think of James Blunt's (Who, as a matter of fact, I saw live at the Hatch Shell last year) "Goodbye my Lover."
