i never know what to get my dad either. he literally has everything. and as soon as he does think of something he wants he immediately goes out and buys it. annoying! lol

I can’t start Xmas shopping until after the 9th. My son’s bday is the 9th and we all promised that we’d keep his bday and Xmas distinctly separate. No big deal, I love last minute shopping. I also have very few to buy for so it’s not too stressful.

My Dad is a challenge to buy for. Gadgets won’t work. UMass gear does, but I’ve bought out the bookstore over the last 20 years.

The one good thing about buying for my Dad is that whatever you buy him, two hours after we all open presents, he’ll sit back in his chair and discover a pile of gifts next to the chair. He’ll go thru each one asking what it is, who it’s for and why is he getting gifts. Ah, senility, the gift that keeps on giving. JK We have to laugh at it b/c otherwise we’d all be crying.

As a Dad, the best gift I ever got was my daughter’s first college english paper. It was one of those Let-me-get-to-know-you-type papers assigned to ease the kids into their freshman year. The topic was how culture and ritual plays a role in your family. My daughter wrote about how she and I bonded with each other over the Sox starting with the loss in game 7 of the 2003 ALCS against the Spanks. Our Sox rituals have gotten pretty complex as time has gone on. Even with her 750 miles away, I still feel like we’re watching the game together.

BTW, she got an “A” on the paper.

Sometimes the best gifts can’t be bought on-line or in the mall.

And, Dads are the hardest to shop for. I got him Netflix for his birthday, though and that went over BIG.

I always have a hard time shopping for my family. Granted this year I think I am going the sports route for both of them, so that shouldn’t be too bad. And I may even peruse the online market as well, I feel like Christmas is right around the corner and I have no gifts, ah!

I LOVE the “of the month clubs”! But I just wish they were a little cheaper so I could do that for more people. I seriously think I would do that for everyone if I could.

I have such a hard time finding gifts for my family and friends. I always feel like I need to surprise them with something truly SPECTACULAR that they never realized they needed so badly. But unfortunately, that puts a lot of pressure on me to find that illusive “perfect gift.” I am really tempted to just get gift cards this year!

Haha, I hear you on the online-shopping deals & dangers – they make it so easy! And I also always have a difficult time shopping for my dad for Christmas; he usually ends up with another history book or another nice sweater… sigh.

I love shopping. All my gfs have always made fun of my shopping habit. It's like a straight guy can't like shopping or something.

I also love getting deals on stuff. I'm always checking deal sites like fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net, and stylenotes.com for stuff for the ladies. I was up at the crack of dawn on Black Friday, although the pickings were slim this year.

I don't worry about shopping for my dad. I'm sure your dad will like anything you get him, even if you think it's boring. Every guy likes gadget-type stuff. If he already has something, buy him an accessory for it.

I’d like to avoid all the crowds and shop online, but I get nervous that with Chicago having the worst mail system, none of my gifts will get here on time.

As for my dad, I think he’s one of the hardest people to shop for. He wants all the expensive things.
